This year we are thankful for our health and continued adventures together. We frolicked in winter wonderlands, reveled in rare celestial events, and explored tasty eateries and local bike routes; thank YOU for enriching our lives in 2024! The photos below are a little snippet of what we have been up to this past year. We look forward to connecting more in the new year - we wish you joy, health, and peace this holiday season!
Our trip to the Ostrander Ski Hut in Yosemite’s high country. The trip began at Badger Pass and involved a ~10 mile ski trek over the snow-covered Glacier Point Road and various rolling hills, with all of our food and overnight winter gear in our packs. This was definitely an ambitious trip on our backcountry skis (there are special “tech bindings” that allow your heel to walk, with skins that keep the skis from sliding backward, which can then be transformed into downhill ski bindings). We narrowly avoided getting snowed in for the week, but it was amazing to see the remote winter landscape!
Since we didn’t want to only use our backpacking set up for the winter, we also made a trip to Cathedral Lake in Yosemite National Park's Tuolumne High Country in August, where we enjoyed beautiful and serene scenery.
Joanna had a jam-packed 6 days in Taiwan with her family - she reconnected with family friends and relatives and explored the tiny alleys of Jiufen and misty trails of Alishan. It was an impromptu trip filled with tasty food and fond memories!
David competed in his 2nd Downieville Cross Country Mountain bike race (over 4100 ft of climbing in ~26.5 mi). He beat his time last year by a huge margin thanks to much more extensive training and more favorable weather conditions… it was only 95 degrees this year.
Joanna competed in her first mountain bike race in muddy slip-and-slide conditions after very heavy rains in Marin county.
We love when Wellie can join in on our adventures - during his first trip to the snow, he was prepared with his special 'The Dog Face' puffy coat. He is a big fan... even if his face doesn't show it in this particular photo.
One of Wellie's favorite spots for running to his heart's delight, the off leash Funston Beach is a treat every time.
David designed and built up a custom geometry titanium hardtail meant for all types of mountain riding. So far it's handled local Bay Area and trails like Mill's Peak with ease, just a little more bumps.
David's only track day this year was at Sonoma Raceway: the first time driving on this track, and part of the 86Challenge series.

Back in 2017, we were able to see the total solar eclipse in Oregon, and we immediately planned the trip for 2024. We had multiple possible locations planned, but as the time got closer, we picked Fredericksburg, Texas to see if we could get a glimpse of this special event. A couple days prior, weather predictions unfavorably changed - it was a nail-biting gamble to stick with our plans, but luckily it paid off with the clouds opening up for several minutes right before totality. Now to start planning for 2044!
For as much as we love our travels and adventures, we also love finding moments of peace, beauty, and community at home. We are grateful for you - let's plan something in 2025!
