This year has been an incredible journey, and we are deeply grateful for good health and the chance to share so many adventures together. From snowy escapades to gazing at rare celestial happenings, and discovering hidden culinary gems and new local bike paths—thank you for being a part of it. The pictures below offer a glimpse into our 2025. We can't wait to catch up more in the new year! Sending you the warmest wishes for a holiday season.
We started off the year with a memorable expedition into the winter wonderland of Alaska - we skied at Alyeska and Ski Land, the Northernmost ski resort in North America. The main goal of the trip was to try and see the Northern lights, which we were semi-succesful at: we saw some green ribbons in Fairbanks after many hours of driving around and staring at the night sky. We didn't catch the bug to be Aurora chasers (it involved a bit too much sleep deprivation!), but if the opportunity arises we would love to just happen upon the dancing lights again!
We'll likely be on a trip through Patagonia when you're reading this! We've wanted to go for nearly 10 years now, and finally were able to make it happen this year. More photos and a trip video coming once we come back...
This year also brought multiple opportunities for reconnecting with and celebrating friends and loved ones. From visiting family friends (and puffins) in Canada on a father-daughter trip to once-in-a-lifetime weddings (involving circumnavigating the world in ~10 days and a long layover in Taiwan to see family), 2025 has been rich with wonderful memories.
It has already been 3 years since Joanna started as faculty at UCSF! She was incredibly honored this year to be recognized with a teaching award and is looking forward to continued growth and learning alongside her wonderful colleagues and friends.
It's now been a year since David joined the startup Multiply Labs. He's leading the hardware team where they are building both a large capital equipment robotic system, as well as all the consumables required for the robot to manipulate fluid between stations and instruments.

Joanna was able to tag along on David's work travel to Italy, and we spent time in Cinque Terre (left) and Valle d'Aosta (right). We flew in and out of Milan, worked during the week, and had the weekends for personal trips.
At Cinque Terre we stayed in Vernazza (the 2nd of the 5 towns going North to South) and then the next day hiked down to Riomaggiore (the southernmost town), and took the train back.
In Valle d'Aosta, we hiked, saw the Matterhorn from the south, and visited the skiing village of Chamois.
While in Valle d'Aosta, David not-so-secretly wanted to make it all the way to Switzerland from Cervinia, so we set out without exactly planning to put in the 10+ miles and 4k ft that day. The hike took us approximately 6 hrs, & definitely Type 2 fun. At the top, we stood with one foot in each country next to the Matterhorn.
David placed 8th overall in the 86 Challenge in his first time competing in a time attack style track series. Next year, he'll have to get a sim setup to get in more track time without breaking the bank...
Final track day of the season, cold weather, still learning and improving. PB of 1:58.837
First time at the brand new track, I stayed conservative and only got down to a 2:09
Sonoma is a legendary track, I progressed throughout the day but couldn't break the 2:00 mark. With new brake pads, and more laps under the belt let's see what I can do!
For Buttonwillow's Original Track with 86Challenge I set a best time of 2:14 on the GT Radial SX2's. More photos from this specific event are posted 2025.03.29 Buttonwillow Speed Ventures
Looking forward to the next year and hope to see you soon! Don't be a stranger, and make sure to reach out if you're stopping by Noe/Glen Park in San Francisco!
